Description

Once production of the E9X M3 ended, BMW M was essentially finished producing the high-revving naturally aspirated motors that they built their name on. The turbocharged engines they began using instead are more powerful and efficient, but they do not offer the same sort of engagement people came to love from the M division. In light of this, it was easy for enthusiasts to pick out the E9X chassis M3 as a future collectible and after a brief dip in prices, they are already on the upswing. Although what truly makes them desirable are the motorsport-derived engine, great chassis, and classic good looks, when it comes to rarity, it is all in the spec of the car. When these cars were new, people typically wanted a car with as many high-tech features as they can get, but as cars age, more often than not, the ones with fewer options become more desirable and that is the case with this M3.

Built in 2011, this E90 may just be the ideal specification for this generation M3. Finished in LeMans Blue over Fox Red Novillo Leather, the combination may sound like two colors that won't work together when in reality, they are in perfect complement with one another. The condition of the paint on the exterior is nearly flawless and could be mistaken for a 5,000-mile car as opposed to one that shows 64,400 miles on the odometer. Optioned from the factory with the desirable Competition Package, the coveted 19” Y-Spoke wheels are in great condition and fill out the fenders perfectly thanks to a set of 15mm front spacers and 12mm units in the rear.

Due to the added practicality afforded by four doors, many E90 M3s were optioned to be used as daily drivers and packed with all of the tech and comfort features on offer. Whereas this M3 was optioned with features to make it better to drive, most of the features that make the car heavier and outdated were kept off. One of the holy grails in the E90 M3 world is the “Single Hump” dash- meaning that the original owner did not order navigation or I-Drive which gives the interior a cleaner look and a more classic car feeling on the inside. Additionally, the sunroof was deleted which reduces weight high up on the car and allows for more headroom on the interior. Finding an M3 with a “Single Hump” or without a sunroof is rare- but having both, paired with such a unique color combination makes this a very uncommon example.

With the E90 M3 being out of production for ten years now, finding well-kept cars with desirable options is beginning to get more difficult. With these cars being so good to drive, owners tended to pile on the miles and as they became “used cars” many of them weren't given the care that a motorsport-derived vehicle like this requires. Finding a car like this E90 with a truly unique specification from new, paired with careful maintenance history, makes this a true collectors grade example and a car that you will enjoy and be proud to display as your own.
