Description

Although the BMW M3 has always been a model on the cutting edge of technology and performance, even back to the E30 M3, the aftermarket modification scene has been quite strong. By changing the suspension or adding power to the engine, owners can tailor the car to fit their needs, while still having a practical car to use every day. The E90 M3 was already a very highly tuned car from the factory and for many enthusiasts, didn't need much to make it perfect. But, some, saw this incredible car as the ideal foundation to produce something over the top, with performance to take on the highest priced supercars, but in a sedan body.

This 2011 E90 M3 started its life as a pretty rare car- 1 of just 5 sedans produced in Fire Orange, this Competition pack equipped, single-hump, slick-top was pretty much the ideal specification for a collector. But, that wasn't enough for the original owner and after spending 10s of thousands of dollars on modifications on top of the $72,325 MSRP, they ended up with a car that was completely unique and absolutely out of this world to drive. To keep the Fire Orange paint looking flawless, both the front end and rear bumper have been wrapped in Paint Protection Film and the entire car has been ceramic coated, meaning that even 12 years after production, the paint shows like new. The interior came from the factory outfitted with black leather but has been upgraded with a set of AMX Custom BMW M Performance bucket seats in front. These seats feature black leather on the outside with centers finished in BMW M Texture Alcantara with orange accents- and the rear seats have been upholstered to match- a job that in itself exceeded $10,000. Additionally, an Alcantara-wrapped BMW M Performance steering wheel has been added with larger aluminum shift paddles and a blue stripe at 12 o'clock.

Powering this E90 M3 is BMW's famous S65 V8 which has been enhanced in this application with the addition of an ESS 650 Supercharger kit which has been painted Fire Orange to match the exterior. Tuned by BPM Sport, a recent dyno run shows that the car produces 527 wheel horsepower and 351 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels- this is a near 180 horsepower and 100 lb-ft increase over a standard car when measured at the wheels. To open up the exhaust, an Akrapovic full exhaust with catalytic converter delete has been installed that gives the car an awesome bark and sounds like a proper race car when you are really going for it. Also worth noting, in addition to all of the performance modifications, this car has received a bevy of preventative maintenance to make sure that it remains solid and performs at a high level for years to come. The list of jobs carried out includes rod bearings, throttle actuators, new OEM valve covers, fuel tank vent valve, spark plugs and coils, as well as new motor mounts- these are all time-consuming and costly jobs that, thanks to a fastidious owner, mean this car is ready for you to get out and rip on.

Under the car, the suspension has received the same level of care as the rest of the car. Even though the original suspension on the E90 M3 offered an excellent balance of handling and comfort, it has been removed and in its place, a set of Ohlins Road and Track coilovers have been installed. These give the ability to dial in the suspension far more precisely, while maintaining the comfort and increasing the performance over the standard car. The coilovers have been combined with Dinan sway bars and Ground Control camber plates to get a perfect alignment and razor sharp turn in. To slow the car down, Stoptech ST60 front brakes with Girodisc Rotors have been added and Stoptech ST40s are installed in the rear- the calipers have all been painted Fire Orange to match the car and look stunning. To keep the exterior appearance relatively stock and give the car some serious sleeper credentials, it retains the Competition package Style 359 wheels in black, but the fronts have been replaced with a new set of rear wheels to give the car a 265 square stance.

When running down the list of modifications that have been carried out on this M3, it is clear that no expense has been spared in making sure it is one of the most capable and well built examples on the road. When you combine that with the fact that it is 1 of just 5 in this color ever produced, it makes this M3 a true collectable. To replicate this car would be prohibitively expensive and finding such a unique starting point would be nearly impossible as well-so if you are looking for the ultimate in rare, performance BMWs, this is the car for you.
