Description

2004 saw the production of Porsche's 996 generation 911 coming to a close. For many, this car represented a low point in the 911- the first water-cooled generation, paired with a controversial design, Porsche knew that the follow up had to truly hit it out of the park. When the 997 debuted in late 2004, Porsche enthusiasts were elated. Although the car remained water-cooled, the complaints about the design had vanished, the fried egg headlights up front returned to the classic round 911 style people loved and the interior was a vast improvement over the plastic, cheap-feeling surroundings in the 996. Although the 997 was heavily based on the 996, almost every single aspect was improved and has subsequently gone down as one of the all time great generations of 911. Powered by an updated version of the 996's Flat-6, the M97 engine displaced 3.8-liters in Carrera S trim and produced 355 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque with a broad powerband and the ability to rev out to over 7,000RPM. To kick off the 997 generation, Porsche produced 337 Launch Edition cars- all of them were painted black and featured numerous desirable options. Items like Projector Headlamps, clear side marker lights, a sunroof, Sport Design rear taillights and special quad exit exhaust.

This 2005 Carrera S Launch Edition is in excellent condition and has been tastefully modified to make it even more appealing! Like all of the Launch Editions, this car is painted in black but the looks on the exterior have been highlighted by a stunning set of gold-centered 19” BBS E88 wheels shrouded in a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Tires. The windows have been professionally ceramic tinted all around. The suspension has been modified with 997 GT3 PASM active suspension coilovers along with spherical camber plates to give the car a more aggressive stance and even sharper handling. One of the very special features that came on the Launch Edition cars was the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes- a nearly $10,000 option, this was cutting-edge new technology at the time and had only been seen on the 996 Turbo S and GT2 in the previous generation. These brakes offer outstanding fade-free performance during track duty and create very little brake dust, keeping your wheels looking clean all the time. Launch Editions also featured a black full leather interior with adaptive, heated front seats and deviated stitching on many surfaces. To update the interior, an Alcantara shift knob from the GT3 was as well as a 997.2 steering wheel wrapped to match. For the sake of reliability, the engine was upgraded with an LN Engineering Single Row Pro IMS bearing upgrade in June of 2019 and the clutch, flywheel and rear main seal were all replaced at the same time. When new, this 997 had an MSRP of $99,300 with over $20,000 of that being special options. Showing just 40,000 miles since delivery, it remains in fantastic condition and thanks to some carefully chosen modifications, is even better to drive than when it was brand new.
